No Blame by baby keem

Repair is complicated when the person who hurt us is also one of the people we love most in the world.

In cases of family, healing often involves holding two truths at once: acknowledging the impact of the harm that was done while still recognizing the humanity and imperfection of the person who caused it.

In No Blame, Baby Keem explores the tension between pain, loyalty, forgiveness, and understanding.

The song sits in the uncomfortable space between accountability and compassion, of recognizing the harmful impact of some of his mother’s actions, while also understanding that she was simply doing her best.

As you listen, reflect on these questions:

  • What is the difference between understanding someone's behavior and excusing it?

  • Can healing happen without assigning blame? When is blame necessary?

  • What does accountability look like in relationships where both people have been wounded?

It’s never helpful to deny harm. Repair asks us to face harm honestly, decide what kind of relationship, if any, is possible moving forward, and then do the work to build towards it.
